Italicize Yourself! Calligraphy 101

This hands-on workshop will introduce students to calligraphy, or beautiful writing by instructor demonstration followed by student practice with simple tools. We will learn the letter families and work through as many lowercase letters of the italic hand as possible in the time allowed. Students will be provided some paper and calligraphy markers in order to get started right away! This experience will help everyone, regardless of major, appreciate typographic design and to see letters in a whole new light!.

Lorrie Frear teaches Graphic Design and Calligraphy at RIT and has conducted calligraphy and lettering workshops at other institutions, including Maryland Institute College of Art, Carnegie Mellon University and California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obsipo. Her love of letters is infectious and you are guaranteed to be entertained as well as to learn about the beauty of letter design.
